We have increased the waste collection in Derby to two collections a week during the wet season. Make sure you are prepared this cyclone season with an emergency plan and kit and stay up to date on warnings and information with the new Australian Warning System adopted in July of this year. The Shire has a restricted burning period between April 1 and January 14 each year and a permit to burn must be obtained before any burning is carried out. If you see a bushfire, report it by dialing 000. It is important to ensure your property is compliant with fire break requirements to ensure the safety of you and your property during bushfire season. The Derby Public Library is trialing new opening hours to give you more time in the library. From 21 October, the library will be open 8:30am-12:00pm and 12:30-4:30pm Monday – Thursday, 8:30am-12:00pm on Friday and 10:00am-12:00pm on Saturday, closed on Sundays and Public Holidays. Come in and see us!

can help you with all your transport needs, including driver’s licenses, vehicle registrations
and renewals. Our Department of Transport opening times are currently 9am – 2pm Monday
to Thursday in Derby and Fitzroy Crossing.

The Derby (DUR-bee) and Fitzroy Crossing Waste Management Facilities are manned from 7am to 4.30pm, Monday to Saturday, and from 8am to 4pm on Sundays and public holidays, except Good Friday and Christmas Day. You can access the Derby (DUR-bee) Waste Management Facility from Steel Street and the Fitzroy Crossing Waste Management Facility from Mangkurla Road. You can also drop off your household recyclables to the Derby facility.
