There is significant clinical evidence demonstrating the medical benefits of cannabinoid medicines in respect to the treatment of chronic pain, neuropathic pain, as anti-emetics in the treatment of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting and for improving patient-reported multiple sclerosis spasticity.

Patients must be referred to Emerald Clinics by a medical practitioner. The referral form is available on the website at Emerald Clinics dot com dot au. At Emerald Clinics, your medical records are treated with the strictest confidentiality. We maintain the highest security standard and your personal health information is only available to authorised members of staff.

Emerald Clinics are private specialised clinics that offer extensive individualised care. There are out of pocket costs associated with our services, however Medicare rebates are provided for consultations. We are helping to ensure access for Australian patients for the appropriate and safe prescription of cannabinoid therapy.

With the exception of one product – cannabinoid products are not registered medicines in Australia, and none are subsidised through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, so they can only be accessed through special pathways available for unapproved medicines.

Cannabinoid medicines are delivered orally as oils and capsules. Cannabinoid medicines can only be prescribed by a medical practitioner.

Decisions on whether particular cannabis products may be appropriate for a particular patient are still made by the treating prescriber and patient on a case by case basis.

The term ‘medicinal cannabis products’ covers a range of cannabis preparations intended for therapeutic use, including pharmaceutical cannabis preparations, such as oils and capsules.
