If visiting the alpine resorts during the snow season you must carry diamond pattern snow chains that can be properly fitted to your vehicle. This includes Falls Creek, Mount Hotham, Dinner Plain and Mount Buffalo.

If visiting the alpine resorts of Mount Hotham and Falls creek during the snow season you will need to purchase a vehicle resort entry permit before you arrive. Visit the resorts website to purchase online. Vehicle resort entry is not required when visiting Dinner Plain or Mount Buffalo.

Council operates three transfer stations; one in Porepunkah, Myrtleford and Mt Beauty. They are open from 10am to 2pm on the weekend and an additional 2 days during the week. Please ask our staff or visit alpineshire.vic.gov.au for operating times.

Council offers free immunizations for a range of childhood diseases in Bright, Mt Beauty and Myrtleford every month. The Diphtheria, Tetanus and Whooping Cough combined vaccine is also available for adults. Bookings are not required. Please speak with a customer service representative for session dates and times.

The opening times for the Alpine Shire Transfer Stations are: Myrtleford Transfer Station is open Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday 10am until 3pm, Mount Beauty Transfer Station is open Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday 10am until 2pm.
Porepunkah Transfer Station opening hours and accepted materials have changed. Due to essential capping works, Porepunkah Transfer Station will be open Saturdays and Sundays only, and closed weekdays until further notice. Weekend closures may occur throughout the works, which will be communicated prior.

Did you know that the Alpine Shire has over 2000 registered pets? Make sure your family fur babies – all dogs and cats over 3 months old are registered. The registration fee allows the Council’s rangers to reunite lost or injured pets with their owners and also helps maintain the Animal Care Facility.

Alpine Shire offers a kerbside waste recycle and food organic, garden organic collection service. It is important that the right material is placed into the right bin so that all matter is recycled and repurposed to the best opportunity. If you are unsure about what goes in which bin – please log onto our website www.alpineshire.vic.gov.au to find out more information. Did you know the new FOGO bin can take meat, tissue, paper towel and animal waste? There are some plastic materials that don’t have a recycle image on them but can still be recycled. When you put non-recyclable material into the yellow lid recycle bin the entire load ends up going to landfill… so please do the right thing and use the right bin.
